Our judge this month: Don Munro
General Feedback :

Our second set subject for the year was MACRO photography and, as always, we also ran an open subject competition.
We had 16 Members entering 48 images for judging.
We were very fortunate to have a magnificent judge from the Federation of Camera Clubs named Don Munro for our Monthly Subject of Macro Photography.
Don looks for the three criteria that occur in almost all successful photos:
Content: What is the photo about? What story are you telling? Why was it important to take this photograph?

Composition: Do all the elements of the photo help tell your “story” without distractions?

Technical: Does the lighting, exposure, depth of field, shutter speed, and other technical aspects help communicate your “story”?
Narooma Camera Club would like to sincerely thank Don for providing us with his fantastic breakdown of his feedback on our images, and useful hints on how to improve our photography.

Our Set subject for April is : Landscape photography
- Due to be emailed in by the 1st Tuesday of April -

Our judge this month: Colin Talbot

General Feedback :
The Set Subject for our April Competition was “Landscape” and, as usual we also ran an Open competition across our three grades.
Colin Talbot was our judge for the month. Colin has been a resident of Kangaroo Valley for the past 30 years, and is a freelance, semi-professional photographer with interests across all photographic genres, but specializing in nature, landscapes, light painting and creative photography.
As a self-taught photographer without any formal training, he has always harboured urges to push photographic boundaries past established norms.
Colin has always had a fascination with exploring the combined effects of light and time when these two elements are the only raw materials.
He chooses “touch” and “feel” over technical excellence; “flow” and “balance” over conventional rules of composition; “light” and “shadow” over the perfect histogram, and sympathetic use of negative space to heighten “mood” and “emotion”.
Colin has competed and been awarded locally, nationally and internationally and been active in local Photography Clubs with presentations, workshops and judging.
Examples of Colin’s work can be seen at:

NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY
Our Set subject for November is Night Photography :
- Due to be emailed in by the 1st Tuesday of November
When speaking about night photography and what there is to it, the first
thought is long exposure, car light trails, city lights, trains at night, boats at
night like ferries etc.
While this is correct, there is a lot more to night photography and since we have more time for our exposure, this might mean endless fun. Light painting, steel wool twirling, fire twirling and many more too.
